How does a guy like Martinez manage to stay off the radar for 34 years?
Or is Paul Williams just not that good?
I hear rumors that DLH ducks Sergio like 3 or 4 years ago, and Vernon Forrest wanted no part of him, but can anyone confirm?

Martinez beat PWill imo, and not only has a better chin, but wouldn't get caught out by Jackson, by being flash as Graham did.. Sergio has only ever been stopped by noted power punching cheat, Antonio ****rito, and in my opinion stands a good chance against Jackson.. Sorry to bring up the 'southpaw' argument here, but once again, it's very relevent because Martinez is one.. Ironically so was Graham, but the fundumental difference being - he held his hands at hip level, where as Martinez is a technically sound operator defensively.. He's very adept at getting inside and staying close, he took the leverage out of Kermit Cintron and Williams by doing this very well indeed..
I'm not saying Cintron and Williams are top notch, but then, neither is Jackson's chin, and Martinez is a respectable puncher on the inside, but could also use his sp stance to fight on the outside if necessary.. It's also worth a mention that although way past prime, Jackson was KO'd by blown up lightweight, Anthony Jones and fellow puncher, Quincy Taylor (whatever happened to him?).. No shame in that, but as a matter of interest, they were also southpaws..
I'm not forgetting Jackson's power here, but unless he gets to Sergio inside the 1st 6, he'll get beat up and ko'd - I'd predict it as a potential 'Fight of the Year' to watch, with Martinez getting some recognition and stopping him in the 12th.. The reason I state this, is it's pretty obvious to me, he struggles with sp's.. Until the ko of Graham, he was seriously getting his ass whooped, and although not on the same skill level, I very much doubt, Martinez would present himself in the way Graham did..Last edited by mickey malone; 04-15-2010, 12:28 AM.

Hmmm, difficult to say. I think Jackson would KO him to be honest. He is hittable and pretty tough, but by Jackson? Jackson was better than Williams and Margarito. He was also a big dude at 154 and could box well enough and had the speed to catch Martinez flush at some point with the left or right...Compared to guys fighting now at 154 anyway.
It would be a great fight either way though....I'm not sure it would look much like Graham/Jackson at all. Graham was a vastly different fighter than Martinez. Much more unorthodox, defensively difficult and moved much quicker in general (feet, body and hands).

People keep talking like Jackson would k.o Martinez...i think the opposite. Jacksons chin wasnt as good as Williams.

Don't see how De La Hoya could have ducked him.Martinez was a complete nobody and not even ranked four years ago.
Martinez was forrest's mandatory for a while and when they finally did sign to fight, forrest got injured and then had to relinquish the title.

a fight with jackson is so unpredictable imo. a massive puncher with such a questionable chin, anything could happen. but i can't help but think that at some point martinez gets caught, and there's no one worse to get caught by than julian jackson.
