Camacho was absolutely hilarious back then.There's obviously no slur in his usage of the word.He probably grew up around guys who would throw that term at each other every ten seconds or so.

I think alot of fans go by the athlete's personality. Ricky Hatton was seen as a down to earth lad and many loved him in Manchester and surrounding areas. Lennox Lewis was born in England but spend alot of time in Canada and won a Gold Medal for Canada and not the UK; this may help explain his lukewarm reception.

The camacho thing about the N word is simple street vernacular in NYC, Camacho is far from a racist, as he was good friends with many black boxers and showed respect for SRL after beating him.

English Fighter Alan Minter said something like "no black men can take my MW title away" and after he lost to Hagler the fans threw things into the ring where hagler had to be escorted away by the police. Why would they support a blatant racist fighter? So you see both sides of the coin there.

I personally despise overt nationalism as if a fighter wins from your country brings pride to you as individuual. I never understood why Fillipinos worship pacman as a god. For example, they make excuses for the long count in the hussein fight and dont question why would a fillipino ref would be allowed to ref a fight in the phils with a pinoy fighter; that alone brings into question the impartiality of the fight. Yet; pinoys would go bonkers if PR Ref Joe Cortez would do Pac vs cotto, because they thought it would favor Cotto. Do we see the hypocrisy? I also don't know how can a man who openly cheats on his wife can say he talks to god and is blessed by him? Just like i called boricuas out for their love affair with Trinidad who i always suspected of having excessive handwrappings. BTW, that debate is kicking a dead horse on what happened in the dressing room before the Hopkins fight.

I am a boxing fan first regardless of their nationality or race. People who are a credit to the sport by being respectful to opponents and being clean inside the ring.

I suppose i was trying to say 'ancient history,' during my lifetime, but yes, the Minter fight was a disgrace that taught a lot of lessons.. Minter's family were from Crawley in West Sus***, and were well known troublemakers in their neighborhood. His popularity, aswell as his career spiralled downwards immediately after this..

I know Macho isn't racist, i was just questioning the remark as a possible answer to some of the question.. It's pretty common knowledge that dudes in New York and other parts, often refer to one-another in all capacities by the N word without taking offence, even though the respondant is often not even black lol..

I only sing his praises as a fighter, but you're 100% right.. I bet he's the talk of the island in Majorca.. I met him several times during his earler career, and he was so refreshingly down-to-earth, you wouldn't believe it.. The subject of religion, would have just made him laugh!.. I just think he went a bit weird after the McClellan fight..

True what you say about Hatton, and i'm sure a lot of his hometown followers will stick by him, but he is now being heavily criticized for his disloyalties to Billy Graham in favour of jumping ship to the Mayweather camp.. Many people are now blaming Hatton, for screwing up his career.. I personally blame his 'carpet-fitter' Dad..

i use to be a big BHOP fan and was actually happy that he beat Trinidad even if i share some similar cultural ancestry with Tito. But his insulting of people like Emanuel Steward and his crybaby reactions to the Taylor and Calzaghe decisions made me lose respect for him.

BHOP tried to get into Joe's head by making those comments. I only imagine if a white, asian, or latin fighter said that about a black fighter? I understand people tried to promote fights and sell both tickets and PPV; but i think things dealing with race and religion should be left out. We saw what happened when Salita went to fight Khan and the ant-semetic slurs he endured.
