Even when you hate certain things about Leonard's conduct, it is hard to deny his all time ranking. Resentment in this thread may be underrating his chin, for he took some solid shots against Duran. A great chin? Maybe no. A reasonable chin? I think at least.

Leonard showed signs of their second fight of how he humialted him into the 'no mas' scenario.
I was glad when duran gave him a fat cut in the last round on his eye.
Go DURAN!

Their third bout was a "make some money" bout don't think it was anything but that!
At that time it was Duran's 93rd bout and Leonard at his 38th!!!!
The wear and tear was on Duran obviously but both needed the money badly, Duran gave it away and Leonard "blew" through it!
I first met Leonard when he going into the Open Class from J.O. boxing and again in one of his early pro bouts he used my gym to prep work.
He was a ****y kid and thats a good thing when your a fighter but it isn't a good thing when you hold yourself above others. I saw the way he conducted himself in public when the "camera's were off" and was a bit of a jack azz!
Duran on the other hand acted pretty goofy with the camera's on and when off was a very likeable fellow. (meet him at Gleasons a half a dozen times)
That third "fight" is called "picking up the pennies" and everyone tries to do it.

As is mentioned already, that fight was just a moneygrabber. Getting casual fans to Shell out the bucks for a fight with mucho namerecognition and little else. All boxingfans was well aware that Duran was done and Leonard at worst a questionmark.
As a huge Leonard fan at that time, I really wanted to see him against Michael Nunn (who I thought would be the next face of boxing) in a changing of the guards fight.
Leonard - Duran III turned out to be a very dull affair very early in the morning for a euro like me. One had hoped that Duran just might be able to show some of his famed savagery, but it was a very boring fight and a fight that should have been the end of Leonards career.

He didn't come pretty close to beating Duran at his own game either, the 1st fight is a clear Duran win and Leonard fought the exact same in the 1st fight as he did in 99% of his fights previous Duran, the myth that he was this guy that always boxed people on the outside is ludicrous and unfounded.
Always find myself scratching my head when I see people post **** like this.

Leonard wasn't able to "move and box" against Duran in the first bout. If he didn't get his feet under him Duran was going to stop him.

The first fight was both men at their best and Duran won. I also think Leonard fought his best fight in the loss. He boxed well, he fought well, he showed guts and determination too. Duran was just better!

Great post Mr Corso
Leonard himself admits he was not able to do a lot things because of lot of factors that duran brought to the first fight.
Leonard turned the tables by superior mental and physical preparation
The third fight should have taken place in 1983 not when it did but Leonards vision was a concern and duran did not show any life of being anywhere near his old self until the Cuevas fight.
