Your scorecards for Toney - Jirov?

I watched this again two nights ago and I still can't see how Ledderman had it scored as close as he did.I thought Toney won clearly to be honest. It was a great fight with the final round being as good as any round you will ever see in boxing.

How did you score this excellent fight?

I had James winning by several points. I think I had him winning 116-110 or something to that effect. Jirov lost the point for low blows, making an otherwise 10-9 round for him 9-9. The 12th round was obviously 10-8 for Toney as well.

I preferred the clean punching and defense from Toney in most rounds. He did about as well as one can possibly do against a relentless attack like that. Jirov was really on his game that night despite a long layoff. His body punching was there and his work rate would have overwhelmed a lot of fighters on that night. There was a lot of back and forth action throughout so I see how someone could have a round or two for Jirov that I scored for Toney. I still think James won clearly however.

Great fight though...one of the best of this decade in my opinion. The dramatic ending was the perfect punctuation on the night. This fight is one of my 5 favorite fights of all-time.

i had toney ahead.....that fight shows how bad harold lederman scores, he just gives points for aggression and throwing wild instead of clean landed punches....

Fat Toney clearly won and I find it best to simply forget that Harold Leddermen even exists to be honest.

Jirov managed to get a good fight out of Mr.Slobby, but his aggression was inferior to Toney's short, precise, power punches, which found their mark often, almost at will.

Pretty much.If the fighters coming foward and if he's throwing alot of punches then Ledderman always give him the round.

I was ringside for this fight and had it neck and neck up until the last round. Watching it on tv later It looked like a much clearer win for Toney. I can understand though how Ledderman had it so close at the time.

I had it very close. Jirov's work rate made it seem very close. Great boxer-puncher classic. I felt the late knockdown was enough to clinch it.

Nice man! Was the atmosphere as electric in person as it was on TV? (rhetorical question I suppose) I can't imagine how the 12th round was in person. I would have been out of my seat swinging at air haha.

The first time I watched it I didn't score it (I rarely do in a big fight). At the time I can remember thinking the KD just nudged JT over the edge. The action was very back and forth and I can see how anyone could have had the fight close. Jirov was throwing to the head and body non-stop and never seemed to be affected by anything Toney was landing until later on.

This is one of the few fights I've seen this decade where it was clear one fighters game plan was constant, unrelenting pressure. Glen Johnson did it to Roy Jones with no respect for the man, Jirov did it with little respect for Toney, few others have done it after. Tommy Brooks was urging Vassiliy on the whole way. James just didn't succumb to the punishment.

It was amazing. I've been to dozens of fights and this was one of the best (as far as atmosphere) if not the best fight I've been to. The only one I may put ahead of it (I know this might sound nuts) would be Vinny Pazienza-Gilbert Dele. This fight was in Providence, Vinny's home town, and 11,000 people were absolutely insane. When Paz stopped Dele in the 12th it was like being at a rock concert. It was so loud you couldn't hear a thing and the Providence civic center felt like it was shaking. Saw Hamed-Sanchez and the electricity in the air made it intense, but not like the other two I mentioned. Seen many others to, but the Toney-Jirov and Paz-Dele fights stand out in my mind.
