    The division certainly was weak.

But the way he dominated it is what was so impressive.

You are being too harsh on him. Witherspoon was not a bad fighter, Smith took him out in 1 round. Tyson beat Smith.

Alex Stewart gave Holyfield a helluva fight, Tyson beat him with ease.

Carl Williams gave Holmes all he could handle in a tough fight, a number of people thinking Williams won the fight, Tyson beat Williams with minimal fuss.

Frank Bruno had his faults but he still beat Oliver McCall, McCall poleaxed Lewis as we know.

      Michael Spinks ?

His record was not that bad.

Spinks was undefeated, a HOF fighter, and the linear heavyweight champion when Tyson destroyed him. Tyson dominated the late 80's during a period when the heavyweight division was a mess. To his credit, he beat all the alphabet champs(Smith, Tucker, berbick, Spinks) to unify the title.

Tyson beat some great fighters who was at their peak, Ruddock, Tucker, Spinks, Smith, Williams, Thomas, Berbick, Tubbs, Holmes, Bruno... i dont think Lewis or the Klitschko`s could beat those guys.

At the time the heavyweight division was 5 times better than it is now.

Yes he was. He could never beat Tyson, but he was the linear champion at the time Tyson beat him.
