I disagree with this one. He was fighting and winning at the top level all the way untill the end. Unless we count the Vitor Belfort fight, that was terrible.

I think he should have called it a day after the Ruiz trilogy. He had a couple of decent wins after that, but was losing to the beat heavyweights. He should have gotten the decision in the snoozfest against Valuev though.

I think the Valuev fight complimented his legacy, vast majority of people see him as a 5 time HW champ because of that one. He took a beating against Toney but the other fights weren't that bad, he still has his marbles because of that. I think it was worth it in the end for him to continue.

Vander hvy record is 26-10-2, with something like a 30% KO ratio.

Admittedly he fought a lot of top contenders whilst he was rated, but really, his was a sadder spectacle fighting for peanuts than even looney Tyson who was still clearing millions$

I get what you mean, it’s hard watching those fighters you grew up admiring try to turn back the clock and struggle with Father Time. Roy Jones Jr. is a good example—he was untouchable in his prime but kept fighting past his best years and took a lot of damage in those later fights. Same with Evander Holyfield, he just couldn’t get that one last win, even though you could see the heart and skill were still there. Guys like Foreman and Hopkins who managed to fight at a high level for so long are exceptions, but it’s a reminder of how brutal age can be in this sport. Makes me think about how my trainer’s words really hit home now—sometimes, no matter how hard you fight, you can't escape it.

Despite the numbers, Evander has one of the greatest HW records and he was also a dangerous punchers who hurt almost every opponent he faced, KO or not.

Numbers are often misleading in boxing whether it's fight records, age or fight stats. It's why I almost completely ignore compubox and never use it to score fights in hindsight.

Evander hurt/dropped/stopped a lot of iron chinned opponents. Stopped Tyson, dropped Bowe, hurt George Foreman and Lennox(Yes Lennox had a great chin) and Ray Mercer. He was not a heavy handed man, but a dangerous puncher due to his speed and counter hits, so when he started aging he pretty much stopped being able to hurt and finish opponents.

i think mike having blood transfusions has to be taken into consideration. He didn't want to miss the fight but these transfusions took it out of him. Should not we consider these as a major factor. Maybe if he fights again he will be in better speed and strength.
