    Worst rivalries

What are some of the worst boxing rivalries where both fighters did annoying things to make them unlikeable, and/or their eventual fight(s) ended up being a dud? Some that come to mind...

Frampton–Quigg: 2 years of build-up for a dull fight in which both were petrified to throw punches.
Bellew–Cleverly: some of the most awful, tasteless trash talk for 2 dull fights with zero action.

Not bothered by the trash talk . . .

but for me these fights fell apart in the rematch or eventually the rubber match; fights that didn't live up to the anticipation, i.e. I expected much more.

Leonard-Duran III (They posed in front of each other for six rounds.)

Carbaljal-Gonzalez III (Both played it safe instead of ratcheting it up.)

Rossman-Galindez II (Rossman not even a shadow of their first fight.)

Duran-Camacho II (Both fat and embarrassed.)

Norris-Brown II (Norris ran away for 12 rounds.)

Pazienza-Haugen III (Paz ran away for 12 rounds.)

Ali-Frazier II (Ali grabbed for 12 rounds; but at least they made up for it next time out.)

Zale-Graziano III (Only from a historical perspective.)

Louis-Schmeling II (Only from a historical perspective.)

Marciano-Walcott II (from film only; felt like Walcott was timing the referee's count just to make sure he got up one second too late.; looked like he quit.)

P.S. We know Greb-Tunney (I) was a barn burner. I wonder if any of the rematches were dogs? We seldom to never hear (or speak much) about the other fights. I do remember that one fight didn't get good newspaper reviews but I can't remember which one. I think it was the 10 Round D-NWS decision, but not sure. You figure they couldn't have brought the house to its feet everything out.

P.S.S. Then there are all the susposed great black fighter rivalries (Langford-McVey) but half of those seem to have come with understandings which ruined the rivalry. E.g. Burley-Williams V (1943) Double DQ.

      - - Has to be Oddly vs Pinky Toe Haye who by appearances attempted suicide 2 days before their fight when he totaled his Mercedes.

Don't think more than two punches were thrown between the two in the first three rounds. It was like Ali of the Young fight fighting hisself doing nada...

Does Norris-Santana even count as a rivalry? Who ever heard of a trilogy that exists only because the guy who was winning had to get DQ’d twice?

Fury/Chisora - These dudes keep having boring ass fights. Why do they keep fighting?

Floyd/Manny - The fight wasn't as bad as some say, but after 5 years of anticipation, it was a gigantic letdown

          Crawford/Spence - it's been about 5 or 6 years of nonsense

Fury/Joshua - Again, years of nonsense

Joshua/Wilder - Again, years of nonsense

Trinidad v De La Hoya. I recall the build up being tremendous and it was a highly anticipated rivalry between Puerto Rico and a Mexican-American who were each undefeated and P4P greats. The fight itself was a disappointment and it was Oscar’s fight to lose. He gave away the late rounds thinking he had it in the bag.

Jones v Hopkins rematch. It should have happened years earlier. Hopkins conduct during the fight killed whatever little respect I had left for him.

The Bowe/Lewis rivalry was one of the biggest let downs in boxing.

GGG v Canelo. Tainted in my opinion by two robberies and a third fight that should have happened four years prior.

                - - Greb vs Walker. Duked 'em outside a bar for free.

Looney Teddy vs anyone he met.

In terms of contemporary rivalries with fights that have actually taken place, that is definitely one of the worst.

Bradley–Alexander: on paper a great rivalry for LWW supremacy, but ultimately a total letdown.
Abraham–Stieglitz: why the fuck did these guys have to fight 4 times when no-one outside Germany gave a shit?!
Haye–Harrison: the usual repugnant conduct from Haye for an utter pile of shit title defence against a chinny, unpopular never-was.
                  Wilder–Stiverne: ugggghhhhh, just no...
Brook–Khan: more so for the decade+ of lame trash talk and inability to make the fight, but now made even more of a letdown because of the PEDs.
