Lloyd is probably my favourite British boxer, he was a truly fantastic fighter and a real character
This was a great upset against a man viewed by many as the p4p best in the world.
It was a shame Lloyd lost his way in terms of the lifestyle between fights as this cut his reign short. Where do folks rate this in their biggest upsets and views on Ragamuffin, particularly from across the pond?

It shocked me as Curry was mentioned as a possible future opponent for Hagler. Curry was never the same after knocking out McCrory. He never captured past glory and the potential after Lloyd KO's him. I have heard since that Curry was into coccaine ? I'm not sure what lead to this loss to Lloyd. Was Lloyd just better ?

Ultimately Curry proved to be not that good, so in time, this isn't really a shock. Just like at the time people thought Tyson would be much better than Douglas, but it turned out that Douglas was better than him, as Tyson's career showed, he did not come close to justifying the hype. Nash out.

I may be a bit bias as I have admitted I'm a big fan of Honeyghan, but I think for a couple of years in the mid to late 80s he was genuinely a world class fighter so IMO he would have been a good match for whichever version of the Lone Star Cobra had turned up. He could only beat what was in front of him and nothing prior to this fight suggested Curry was anything less than at his best. Lots of stories subsequently about his weight issues and drugs etc but I can only really think of Tyson v Douglas as a comparison whereby such a huge favourite was given such a one sided beating by the underdog.
It ranks as the best win by an English fighter I think. Up against a p4p top5, in his backyard, undisputed title on the line. Yep, none better for me.

He also got screwed by SRLeonard when he backed out of their promised big $$$ fight, so he was a hot mess. I am not diminishing Honey's achievement because he had to overcome the horizontal Brit syndrome to pull it out.

Put some respect on Jamaica. Jamaica is where Honeyghan is from.

Born in Jamaica but made in England. He was a little kid when he came to England.. No denying his roots but he is an all time great British boxing legend.
