    Alexis Arguello or Wilfredo Gomez

Who do you believe was the better fighter? Wilfredo Gomez was a champion at Super Bantam, Feather and Supefeatherweight. He was a massive puncher with good lateral movement a decent body attack, but could be lethargic sometimes (see fight with Azumah Nelson). Alexis Arguello was a champ at Feather, Super Feather and Lightweight (the first 3 weight world champ.
Who do you think had the better resume?

Arguello had the better resume, he was also the better fighter by quite some way

Alexis was too big and Gomez left himself exposed when he got aggressive imo,

Arguello was the better fighter all around and had the better resume. Gomez had the better footwork though.

Arguello, but it wasn't by a whole lot.

gomez is better on film, arguello has the better record.

gomez losing to sanchez is more forgivable than arguello losing to pryor.

seeing these guys square off at 122 would have been something special... and bizarre.

I mean, Sanchez was a greater fighter to me, but Pryor was significantly bigger than Arguello while Salvador wasn't all that bigger than Gomez, very big, imposing 122 pounder.

I do think it's Arguello as well, mostly because He was more durable, more effective in second half or last third of a fight.
Not that much between them - and I think Gomez could beat some guys that Arguello could lose to and vice versa, very different styles.
Sounds like somebody needs to go back and watch the fights.

Two personal favorites of mine but Arguello definitely is the greater overall fighter based on his career and resume. Gomez at 122 specifically though is probably just as good as any Arguello but Alexis’ frame allowed him to be just as good at 135 as he was at 126.

The weight where he was REALLY looking like a killer was at 140...

I'd also argue that if Gomez weren't so in love w/ his power by the point he met Sal, and the Caldwell fight had already happened, we might have seen a very different out-come. Not saying Gomez pulls a Willie Pep performance, or we see a Featherweight version of Mayweather-Alvarez, but the way the fight happened is not how it HAD to happen. Not at all.

hats off to Sal for making the most of it, though. Epic performance.
