Punching Power: Ernie Shavers Or George Foreman?

This is an interesting Matchup because there are diffrent types of Power and people judge a power of a punch in diffrent ways. Some Rate 1 Punch some rate combinations etc.

For me i would have to go with George Foreman in this one, Although ErnieMay have a better right hand then George, I beleave we should judge all punches, Therefore i think George Makes up with it with his Left hand. This is only my Opinion, Cant wait to hear yours.

Good opinion there Rooster, I ticked Shavers before reading your post. Not to say I'd have ticked Foreman's instead but you are right George's left was heavier than Shavers.

I did choose Earnie based on the fact that everyone who faced both said that Earnie hit harder and that includes Ali, Holmes and Norton. But I agree, all of these were talking about his right hand so hell, overall I guess its a pickem.

George was clearly the all time great of the two though, punch power aside.

Tough call. Foreman had incredible strength, but I think shavers one punch power was better. Maybe the best in history. Had George thrown his punches more technicly correct with better timing I could have been a different story. Jmo.

Foremans left Just shading Shavers right on variety.. Same kinda power, but Foreman a tadge more versatile..

In answer to the question, Earnie probably had more dynamite in a single shot, but I'd still make Foreman the more dangerous opponent, due to his size and strength, his wider arsenal, his better chin, and he did ultimately beat better opposition than Earnie did.

Shavers had a good left hook too although he rarely used it. Ron Lyle would agree.

I don't think there was anything wrong with his variety, he had a lot of power in the right hand (his best punch of course), the left hook, the uppercut and even the jab. His looping right to the body was also a very punishing punch.

              Foreman was the hardest puncher

I agree with all of you guys.Shavers right hand was harder than any punch Forman had,but Forman's left hand was much harder, and his right hand was not far behind Shavers right hand.

                So I picked Forman.

Keep in mind the discussion concerns punching power and not who would win in a silly little fantasy match up

Ali,norton,Young,Lyle all of whom have fought both foreman and shavers have listed shavers as the greatest puncher they ever fought

unless ofcourse all four men had a personal vendetta against george foreman..who knows

That echos my thoughts Prince, I do think that Foreman may have had the heavier left though.
