Why is it Marciano still talked about like he is this all time great fighter when

he was not? Figthers like Foreman and Tyson are critized for fighting bums at the begging of their career yet not once have I seen Marciano put down the same way in any of the boxing forums I am apart of. The first major fight for Marciano was Carmine Vingo but who did Carmine fight to be considered a good fighter? Joe Modzele or was it George Washington?( He actually fought a guy named George Washington). Marciano fought bums like Rex Layne who padded his own record by fighting bums. Roland LaStarza who he lost too in their first fight was a nobody. Big Bill Wilson a nobody.

Towards the end of his career he stepped up in clas if you want to call it that and fought Joe Louis who was pushing 40, Jerzey Joe Walcott who was pushing 40 and Archie Moore who was pushing 40. Do you believe Tyson, Foreman, Frazier ect ect ect would get credit if their best wins came against guys pushing 40? Hell no not to mention Charles and Archie Moore both were natural middleweights who bulked up later in their careers because they couldnt get a shot at the middleweight championship.

There would be numerous fighters from middleweight to heavyweight who would have gone so called undefeated if they fought the the type opposition Marciano fought ( By so called undefeated I mean Marciano actually did lose 3 fights but got gift descisions) You can not name one 180 pound fighter Marciano fought who were in their physical primes and Marciano beat them. Even the 4 fighters he are known for fighting gave him a tought text and in the case of Charles beat him in their first fight. Moore dropped him with one punch and lasted till the 9th round even though in his physical he was knocked out much quicker. Walcott dropped Marciano with one punch and was leading up until he was stopped in the 13th, then you realize Walcott was knocked out 5 or 6 times before he faced Marciano and that he was knocked out much easier by those other fighters who stopped him.

So basically what did Marciano do? Fight setup fights controlled by the mafia? Fight guys who were naturally 20 pounds smaller than himself? Is that something to be proud of? Does that make you the greatest heavyweight of all time even though you have to be 205 pounds to be considered a heavyweight today. Let's face facts even as a 185 pound fighter Marciano is a joke. Even if you say he was good for his size that is just a lie, as I said he never faced any 185 pound fighters who were still in their 20s or early 30s and were considered world class. I mean guys with only a couple of loses at that point in time, not the 10 plus Ezzard Charles had when he first faced Marciano.

Guys like Charles who tured pro in 1940 at the age of 19 at 157 and fought at least 30 fights at middleweight before he decided to move up to light heavyweight and then fought from 1944 to 1949 as a light heavyweight before finally moving up to 180 which kind of proves he was a natural smaller man than Marciano. Archie Moore turned pro in 1938 and weighed in the 140s and basically stayed a middleweight until 1945 which is 10 years efore finally moving up to what today would be considered super middleweight before moving up to light heavyweight. So Marciano beating a washed up Moore must of ment he could knock out true heavyweights like Rid**** Bowe, Lennox Lewis, George Foreman, Oliver McCall ect ect ect?

Marciano was a nobody, live with it. There is nothing wrong with being white and liking Marciano because he was white like you are but to build him to this degree is simply amusing. Marciano had no skilll, no talent or ability. He fought in a era where the mob controlled boxing and he didnt have to fight world class people to be considered great.

Dude went unbeaten and made a legendary name for himself. Only figures he'd still get talked about some.

The Rock was the toughest man ever to step into a boxing ring. No one in the history of the sport was as well conditioned as this guy. Lazy slobs can criticize his size and his lack of skill, but the truth is he didn't need either. Relentless, impervious to pain, stronger in the 15th round than he was in the 1st, possessor of one of the strongest right hands in boxing history, the destroyer of one HOF'er after another, he was simply the baddest man of his era. He OWNED.

        49-0-0, 43 big KO's!!!

"LOL" is all I gotta say. I think Rocky is overrated by most, underrated by you.

His punching power is overrated, the guy has no speed or defense, but he does have heart..and heart can go a long way. I'm not saying he'd beat any of the top dogs but he wouldn't lose to the bums ether.

His defense is underrated, he was deceptively difficult to hit.

underated, but still bad. He got hit a lot in his fights. He took shots anybody else would have avoided.

You ****ing ignorant tool. Marciano was the greatest warrier ever to set foot in a boxing ring! So he wasn't a ballerina in there, so he wasn't a hulking fatass. He whipped himself into impeccable shape for every fight, purposely fighting at the lightest possible weight for the edge in stamina it gave him. He would've thrived in any era.. you think a guy like him wouldn't make optimum use of every advanced training tip, every supplement, every piece of nutritional info the modern world has to offer? Christ, he would make a lazy pig like Bowe quit on his stool. The Rock was a product of his time, he did what he had to do in spectacular fashion, he fought all comers (which included how many hall of famers?), his KO % was one of the best if not THE best in heavyweight history. Oh yeah, and he NEVER lost. 49-0 43 knockouts.

                    Show some respect.
