i actually do..
recently ive read tom bogs book, he fought monzon for his title, it was fought in copenhagen, the capital in denmark..
he said, that many thought monzon was arrogant, but bogs thought he had the mindset and charisma of a champ.. when they stood face to face, for photos i think, bogs said to monzon, if you beat me, this is yours, pointing to his necklass, made of gold with a small pair of boxing gloves on..
monzon beat bogs, and after the fight, there was an afterparty, bogs was hanging out with his friends, and monzon entered the room. bogs tsaid, that he saw monzon aproaching his table, and cool and calm monzon said, i believe this is mine, took the necklass, and left.. talk about pissing in someones face, but that was the deal, and monzon sure as hell made bogs keep his promise

i heard he got ****d in jail! true story. Does anyone else think they should let incarcerated fighters have a training camp inside so their talent doesn't go to waste? It would do them and society good. They should also be let out with a dog tag and some prison guards to have their fights, in the same way other inmates are released for funerals (which don't really make a difference to others). The same should apply for the Plymouth FC Keeper who got 7 years for death by drunk driving. Athletes are public property and must be used to serve the greater good: our entertainment.

Monzon kayoed Bogs in 5 rounds. From a danish perspective let me add that Tom Bogs changed his trainer for this fight. Mogens Palle, the manager/promotor, brought in the famed Al Silvani to prepare Bogs. Silvani decided to change Bogs style to fight like Joe Frazier, thinking that bobbing, weaving and throwing the left hook was the right medicine to conquer the great Monzon. Of course it didn't work and bringing in Silvani is one of the biggest regrets Tom Bogs has regarding his career. He didn't think he should have altered his style.

Well i have read this article in spanish, i don't know if here are something you haven't heard before, i guess everything here is not new for you, but i will translate it.
"35 years ago Monzon initiated its own empire in Rome: Tribute to the great champion
The boxer from Santa Fe conquer the Middleweight title the 7 of November of 1970 in Rome, after KO in twelve rounds to the Italian Nino Benvenuti. The memory of a right that initiated the legend of one of the greatest boxers of history.
The action was vertiginous, was perceived at moments. The Italian Nino Benvenuti ran from one corner to another one trying to escape of the determination of an Argentinean who was prepared to his life changed forever.
The world middleweight champion thought that in that corner he would find defense. But that corner ended up illuminating the legend way of Carlos Monzon, that with a right ended the resistance of the European and broke forever with the whims of the time and the memory.
35 years have passed from that one 7 of November of 1970 and with the Sport Palazzo dello of Rome like scene. Few believed in chances of the Argentinean. For that reason the goodbye in Ezeiza before facing the flight to Italy was not for anything nourished in companions. With humility Monzon said: Better, thus I can embrace to each one of you.
Hardly Juan Carlos Tito Lectore, the historical promoter of the Luna Park, and Amilcar Brusa, boxistic father of the boxer from Santa Fe, accepted and caused the challenge to the Italian, one of the most outstanding boxers of the decade of the 60. The one that came to maintain one remembered trilogy with Emile Griffith and to conquer the crowns of Jr. Middleweight and Middleweight.
In order to arrive at the instance to have face to face to the monarch, Monzon had to elaborate a campaign of eighty fights in which it confronted with his rivals and the endebles of his knuckles, that had to be infiltrated before each fight so that it could support the pain that brought about in its fists its own blows to him. A bitter fruit that provided a childhood to him of delays and without bread in the table.
With 28 years, the Argentinean transferred the fury from his history to the city of the Cesars, where he initiated his own empire. The Great Carlos had arrived at the world from the earth floor of a farm and journeyed a puberty developed with laws of asphalt.
Until it decided to be boxer to exchange its life in a world where they could accompany it the smiles and joys to the long compass by his jabs of left and their lethal rectums of right.
After the Roman night the historical accomplish would arrive of the 14 consecutive defenses of the middleweight title, mark that lasted 24 years until the American Bernard Hopkins could equal it in 2001.
That time, and although the man of Philadelphia finished defeating to the Puerto Rican Felix Tito Trinidad in the fight of his life, between his first words indicated: I am very happy to have even the record of Monzon, clear testimony than it represents the image of the boxer from Santa Fe in the universe of the boxing.
After Benvenuti the retentions in Ring arrived, it conquests of playboy, the nights in the casinos of Montecarlo or in the Lido of Paris, Susana Giménez arrived, the retirement of boxing, its drama with Alicia Muñiz in Mar de Plata and its tragic death in the streets.
But the date imposes the memory of the sport myth, that one that was developed 35 years ago a ******* with his right that broker forever the whims of the time and the memory. For that reason, because each 7 of November Benvenuti continue falling and Monzon rising the arms towards the sky.
Carlos Monsoon: Biography
It was born the 7 from August of 1942 in a humble district of San Javier, province of Santa Fe. It was fifth of thirteen brothers. Being a kid, her family decided to move to the Santa Fe capital choosing to the Barranquitas district like her new home.
Carlitos began to work selling daily and frequently it fought with other kids to appropriate itself of the most demanded corners. He and his friends realized of their boxing dowry, and at 17 years old Monzon had its first boxing combat facing Cardozo and securing a tie.
Later, it made the decision that would change his life, to train with Amílcar Brusa. Although nobody gave nothing by this skinny gawky one, Brusa knew that it had with Carlitos the possibility of creating a World-wide Champion. That gymnasium was a redoubt of kids of low resources that looked in the boxing the possibility of escaping from poverty. For Brusa the trainer has a social function as well, educating to his disciples, becoming his father, advisor and friend.
The 12 of December of 1962 fought for the last time like amateur, winning to him by points to Cejas. His first professional fight, the 6 of February of 1963, was victory before Ramon Montenegro, in Rafaela. Only needed 2 rounds to win. That moment was followed by a marathon of fights, first because Brusa wanted that Carlos acquiere experience and second to mitigate the exasperating economic situation of the family Monzon. They were 22 combats between 1963 and 1964.
That rythm derived in the three only defeats that suffered in their career. The 13 of September of 1966 snatch the Argentine Championship to Jorge Fernandez. The 10 of June of 1967 wins again in the rematch to Fernandez, getting this time with the South American (title).
In 1969 Monzon arrives in the world ranking at 2° place, thanks to the efforts of Tito Lectoure, that brought foreign opponents to him with a purpose to obtaining the fight by the title of the world with Nino Benvenutti, champion from 1968, after defeating to Emile Griffith.
That possibility would arrive the 7 from November of 1970. The place: Sport Palazzo dello, Rome. In twelfth round, indeed to the 2 minutes, a right from "del negro" (the black) KO to Benvenutti.
Carlos would become in boxing became later 4° nd his more explaining outstanding. More winner was born the medium champion from history. He defended the title in fourteen opportunities, fourteen guarded in that were paralyzed to the country, especially, to his native Santa Fe, where each fight was a popular event.
In his first defense he did not have disadvantages to defeat again to Benvenutti, this time was a categorical Knock Technical Out in third round.
Later they happened in front of the right demolisher of "del negro", Jean-Claude Bouttier (on two ocassions), Tom Bogs, Bennie Briscoe, Emile Griffith, Jose Naples "The Butter", Tony Mundine, Tony Licata, Gratien Tonna, Rodrigo Rocky Valdéz. In his first fight with the Colombian Valdes, he unified the titles of AMB and CMB. In the revenge, in Montecarlo the 30 of 1977 July, Monzon was able to revert a fight that was to him unfavorable as much in the prognoses as in the proceeding, had fallen in the second round and Rocky seemed immune to the advances of Monzon. Finally, after battling the combat throughout, the judges considered that Monsoon it remained with the crown, this time forever, since after that fight, Carlos would announce his definitive retirement, remaining with all the glory. The other history of Carlos Monzon little has to do with the sport thing. It was cinema star, elbowed with the international jet set, to such point that El Grafico (the most important argentinian sport magazine), sometimes titled: MOROCHO (brunet) AND ARGENTINEAN: KING DE PARÍS. Also, he had to confront the low blows that the life had prepared to him.
Mar del Plata; 14 of February of 1988: His life, suddenly, was attacked by the destiny. That tragic night, would provide a black future for retired champion. In a confused fact, the Uruguayan actress Alicia Muñiz; her mate for a long period; it fell from the balcony of the villa where the couple spent the summer. The trial, stopped to the country, and as with his fights, Santa Fe lived those days following the event transmitted live from the radio.
The sentence determined that Carlos Monsoon was responsible for homicide and had to fulfill a sentence of 11 years.
Santa Fe; 8 of January of 1995: El negro, already enjoyed, from a while, the conditional freedom. He worked in U.P.C.N., training boxers. And he returned, entering the night, to his cell of the Penitentiary Las Flores.
That afternoon, when he returned to prison, he lost the control of the car that he himself lead. He "bit" the border of the street and after seven spins, he and two companions were killed in the act.
The stirring goodbye that offered Santa Fe to him, was a sample for what it meant the champion for the people. The funeral wake was carried out in the Municipality of Santa Fe, where thousands of people concurred.
Monzon, it was for always and more than ever in the hearts of the Sabalero Town (Santa Fe) that will shout eternally: El negro Campion!"
