13th round fought to break a draw

I haven't heard of this happening in recent decades, but apparently in 1987 Doug De Witt and Tony Thornton fought a 13th round to determine a winner.

    Did anyone see the fight?

Are there any other examples of this happening in the past 40 years or so?

thats interesting, so its not queensbury right? if its too many rounds? i'd hate to see boxing try to be k-1 and have a rule change to do extra rounds though, they've already stolen the tournament format

I never heard nothin about this. Theoretically it sounds cool, but it'd look kinda ****** for a fight to end, the final scores be tallied, than anotha rd announced to determine the winner cuz it was a draw. Especially if it was an obvious close fight and both guys went all out tryin to KO each other in the 12th.

It would be a hell of a round!

They used to do this for USBA titles.

I was watching the James Green-Frank Fletcher fight a little while ago (very good fight), and the commentator mentioned that this.
