How good was Gavilan

I'm about to watch this fight of his against Davy. Prior to this I've only seen one, fight and although he looks good, he doesn't look like he's legendary. Just an ordinary boxer to me, what made him stand out?

actually I'll take some of that baack. He's got some good speed, and a punch and an alright D, but he seems abit too flashy.
