Muhammad Ali
Joe Louis
Wladimir Klitschko
Larry Holmes
Lennox Lewis
Evander Holyfield
George Foreman
Mike Tyson
Rocky Marciano
Joe Frazier
I figure boxers in a weight class can be ranked 2 ways: by overall achievement over a career and how'd they rank amongst themselves if each was at their best.
My first list reflects former [over a career based on achievements].
My second - for me the prime list - is how they rank overall as fighters and not just on achievements.
Thus:
Muhammad Ali
Joe Louis
Larry Holmes
George Foreman
Mike Tyson
Sonny Liston
Lennox Lewis
Evander Holyfield
Wladimir Klitscko
Joe Frazier

It's hard to score it for being the top 10 HWs when the weight classification of heavyweight has completely changed whilst most of the past greats of the era are from the weight range of 175-190+ lbs
Basically ignoring weight classification I think Lennox deserves to be the number one for he faced quality opponent of heavyweight caliber dangerous 220+ beast of men albeit he did have a stumbling point (two) overall I think H2H you have every right to think he would be the favorite.
Larry Holmes you can't ignore that long ass reign he had as a champion in his prime the loss to Spinks is what makes me take him away from being number one you can't forget that Michael Spinks was basically a blown up middleweight that should of stayed at MW I may add Spinks regardless is world class but you shouldn't be losing to that when you're the natural heavy.
Quick summary I'd of likely rated Joe higher If it weren't for lack of quality big men he faced, its not his fault there just weren't many quality big fighters out there Buddy Baer, Primo Carnera they're good yes but they're not world class.
Wlad just a bit like Joe and Larry its the reign as a champ that keeps him where he is in my rankings.
Foreman would likely of rated higher If he didn't take that large period of time off I believe religious reasons not a bad thing but he did come back like a boss and win a world title as the oldest man ever to do it which for me is a much better feat than anything Ali or Frazier has ever done.

Made this list many times, always a new result. This is today's version.
Will revise once Wladimir has retired, as he might take a spot in the top 10.
