Hearns was definately a p4p great fighter. His destruction of the feared WBA welterweight champ Pipino Cuevas, only fighter to ever KTFO the great Roberto Duran, great boxing display against the defensive specialist Wilfred Benitez. He beat lots of top fighters whether contenders or champs from 47-75. He should have got the decision in the rematch with Ray Leonard droppin him twice. Even though he lost his fights with SRL and hagler the first time he gave one hell of a performance both times nothing to be ashamed nearly winning the fights but came up short.

would he still KO a prime duran?

when they fought duran was past his primes.

Sort of an unfair fight due to size. Prime Duran was a lightweight but I don't think Hearns fought as a pro at lightweight. At lightweight in his prime, Duran destroys Hearns.

But even at welter, I don't think he'd ko a slightly past prime Duran (like against SRL the first time). Up to that point, Duran was essentially impossible to hurt and one of the best ever body punchers. Hearns had a pretty suspect chin and, as Hagler so ably demonstrated, did not have a strong body. I think it would go a lot like the Hagler fight. Duran would wade in, get hit and hurt but press on with a body attack which would lead to an early knock out. SRL couldn't keep prime Duran off of him and neither would Hearns.

            The Hitman was a legend.

Was never protected and never ducked anyone. Fought the best in the world on their own terms.

Only downside was he fought on for too long.

Was great to see him during the Oscar PBF preshow.

I wouldn't expect a 2nd round blowout like we saw in 1984 had Duran been in his prime. I think the Carlos Palomino or SRL 1 version of Duran vs. Hearns would have been a great fight. I couldn't really say who would win that fight at welter as i can see either man winning. I don't think the 1984 fight has much correlation to a fight between the two lets say if duran was in his prime. However Hearns still deserves credit for that win because Duran still had lots left in the tank he had the previous year gone 15 rounds with Hagler in 83 and would 5 yrs later after the hearns fight in 1989 defeat Iran Barkley and taking his biggest bombs.

Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns was not only a P4P great champion, he was responsible for so many great memories for a lot of us. When he blasted out the fearsome Pipino Cuevas in 2, his devastating KO of Duran, his epic war with Hagler, the Leonard build up and fight...his baleful staredowns, the way he ALWAYS came into the ring IN SHAPE and ready (and EAGER) for WAR!

Never got in trouble outside of the ring when so many routinely did. Loyal to his fans, his city and his Kronk team mates.

What bad could be said about a guy who gave us so much? He had a wonderful career and his ring credentials are the envy of even the best in boxing.
