Okay, so he's looked pretty sharp so far. He's certainly providing more excitement than the rest of the heavyweight division, and his punching is accurate, crisp, and ready. Though he has yet to tread into later rounds as a 44 year old man, the question comes to mind:

If he can do it, could Lennox Lewis, Rid**** Bowe, Mike Tyson, or any of the others from the last (decent) generation of heavyweights do it? If so, explain their strengths and weaknesses.

Tyson and Bowe get big NO's as they lack the mental and physical discipline, focus, purpose and self belief to be successful. Bowe and Tyson have also abused their bodies outside of the ring.

Lennox has physical tools like patience, boxing ability, strength, height, reach and power which could see him still competitive if he chose to return.

Lennox Lewis would be the most likely of the crop, I agree. I also figured that Vitali may have had some gas left in the tank...although I forgot to mention him.

Rid**** Bowe- would lack the mental strength to return, as well as stamina
Mike Tyson- has lacked the mental strength his whole career but he has risen to the occasion. so i say yes for tyson. if he would return, it would be a dominant one.
lennox lewis- retired too early in the first place, would be a great comeback.

It's interesting to see some varied opinions.

Tyson has the skills to come back, but which Tyson (mentally) would show up is always a question. Against McBride, for example, Tyson was outboxing the journeyman, but he didn't feel like fighting anymore, so he sat down.

Bowe has stated in a couple of interviews that he would consider coming back, especially if it meant a 4th fight with Evander Holyfield. He has wrecked his body, however, during his absence.

Lewis would be solid, I'd wager.

Klitschko (Vitali) probably retired too early as well.

Interesting thought process, though it's sad to think that a bunch of 40 year old men would be the hope for the heavyweight division.

I disagree with some of your comments. Tyson's weak point was undoubtedly mental strength, but i don't think he lacked mental strength throughout his whole career, and i don't think that a Tyson return would be a dominant one, even though he would still probably sell out tickets.
Also, Lennox Lewis retired at the right time IMO.
