Ali and Cus D'Amato "Duke it Out"

Apologies if it's been posted already.

Kid, you'll have to tell me how to insert the youtube screen in your post.

That's from a Jimmy Jacobs film by the name of Muhammad Ali aka Cassius Clay.

Anyway here's Ali in the film telling Cus how he would beat Joe Louis. Ali is pretty harsh in his assesment of Joe and his opponents. His impression of Louis is pretty funny though.

I've seen Aka Cassius Clay, and I love that film! My favorite Ali documentary might be "The Fighter" dealing with the buildup of the "Fight of the Century" and concluding with the entire first Ali-Frazier fight itself.

Aka is a great one though, I'll have to watch it again sometime soon.

BTW, to insert a video into your post, copy the "Embed" field on youtube.com and then paste it into the message body of your body.

Ali looked real out of shape in that clip.

That clip of Ali fighting the exhibition was in September 1970.

Ali had been inactive for 3 1/2 years but there was talk of Georgia possibly granting him a boxing licence and during that time Ali fought this 8 round exhibition with three different opponents at Morehouse College in Atlanta.

Ali was clearly winded by the third opponent but remember he hadn't started training yet because at the time of the exhibition (which was videotaped to be shown later on ABC Wide World Of Sports) Ali still wasn't licenced. At one point ABC wanted to stop filming because was sluggish and didn't look too impressive.

The clip of Ali 'shoe shining' his opponent with his back to the ropes was the last round where Ali turned it on at the request of Bundini Brown.

"This aint' no godamn exhibition. This the Resurrection." - Muhammad Ali

Ali got a boxing licence the next week and fought Quarry 6 weeks later.

Ali taking on Quarry as his first opponent after the layoff ranks as such an impressive feat to me. Quarry was a very dangerous opponent for anyone to take on, especially with any kind of potential ring rust.

Do you know if Quarry was even much of an underdog? I'd imagine the betting would have been pretty close on that fight at the time.

17 to 5 in favour of Ali (lots of late money on him...a week earlier it was 5 to 2), so says the same day reports of the odds for the fight.
