Those are just casual fans of the sport. True fans know better. We just pat those casual fans on the head, smile and send them on their way, giggling.

While everyone is entitled to their own opinions, that doesn't supercede the facts. Sometimes there is right and there is wrong, regardless of what we believe.

In the event of sports, where every competitor from different eras become apples and oranges, this clarity can be difficult to see. In terms of fight records, Tyson would not be the best. In terms of skill, he would probably be top 10-12 among heavyweights. When it comes to potential, he'd have to be number 1, since his career was in its infancy before he flushed it away to laziness, canning his corner, and drinking all night long. As far as a great champion goes, Tyson would fall short here, probably 15-20th, as he handled himself very poorly as champion (ie: see above "flush").

Nonetheless, he still accomplished something remarkable in unifying the belts, while becoming the youngest champ in heavyweight history. He displayed moments of heart and stamina, only briefly, but was certainly an awesome sight. He dominated through skill, speed, and power, a combination usually not found in one fighter, especially one of his compact, bulky stature.

So, regardless of how much the lead poster here hates Tyson and his fans, he is by far the most controversial of subjects, and perhaps THE most influencial figure in heavyweight history. An entire era was created and subsequently destroyed by his decision making, and no fights have ever drawn more attention or money than one with his name in it.

I think Tyson is the greatest of all time. And I love BOXING. Besides Tyson, My favorite Boxers are Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Rocky Marcaino, Larry Holmes, Muhammad Ali, Sonny Liston, The Klitschko Bothers, Antonio Tarver, Ray Leonard, Carman Basilio, Jack Dempsey, Joe Fraizer, George Forreman, Pongsaklek Wonjonkam, Felix Trinidad, Hasim Rahman, James Toney, Ray Robinson. I could name more.

As you can see I love fighters from every era, weight class, country, race, and style.

If you would have told me two years ago that their was a sport greater than football, I would have laughed in your face. Tyson proved me dead wrong. Boxing is the greatest sport of all time. If it wasnt for Tyson, I wouldnt know half the fighters from that list. Tyson is awesome.
