Former EBU heavyweight champ Erkan Teper (16-0 or 15-0-0-1) returned to action after almost a year out in Lueneburg (Germany) and won a ten round unanimous decision over American contender Derric Rossy (30-12). It was scored 98-92, 97-93 and 96-94. The show was promoted by PSP Boxing and sanctioned by the BDB.
Teper was suspended for two years by the EBU after failing a doping test after winning the EBU title July 17, 2015, with a second round knockout over David Price.
This suspension is still in effect and is supposed to be respected by the EBU members - but in reality it only blocks Teper from EBU sanctioned fights.
In other action, German-based Nigerian middleweight Nuhu Lawal (23-0) won over Hungarian Istvan Szili (19-2-2) to win the vacant WBA Intercontinental title last night in Nuremberg (Germany). Szili did good but was floored in the third and sixth. The official ending was a knockout win for Lawal but Szili apparently could have continued but was counted out on his knees and rose when the count reached ten and out.
On the undercard Australia-based Nigerian King Davidson (18-2) was upset by Polish journeyman Robert Talarek (14-12-2) and lost a decision in an eight-rounder.
Also, Ardin Diale has lost his Orient Pacific Boxing Federation flyweight title via 4th round knockout by unbeaten 20 year old Japanese KO artist Daigo Higa at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo. The end came at 2:39 of the fourth round in a clear mismatch with Higa scoring his tenth straight knockout victory.
From the start of the fight Higa had the Filipino in trouble connecting with a right cross as Diale who has a nasty habit of ducking while keeping his hands held low, felt the power of the Japanese youngster. Higa dropped Diale for a second time with a vicious body shot after a combination to the head. The Filipino champion barely beat the count as Higa stood on the neutral corner ropes figuring that the fight was over, but it was not. After a series of solid combinations Diale once again fell on his knees and the referee counted him out.
