Edgar Sosa (44-7, 27KOs) who’s the WBC’s International Flyweight Champion, will fight Wilbert Uicab (33-6-1, 18KOs), who’s the Silver Champion, on the tentative date of March 31. The announcement has been made by promoters Pepe Gomez and Ricardo Maldonado. The fight will take place at the Oasis Hotel complex in Cancun.

The fight is one of this year’s early celebration events, to mark half a century of the World Boxing Council. Dubbed the Aztec Warrior vs. the Mayan Warrior, the contest will decide who’s the best flyweight in Mexico.

Edgar is ranked number two by the WBC and Wilbert is number five. The fight was announced in the Zona Rosa offices of the WBC.

Edgar who fought over the weekend, defeating Filipino Roilo Golez via a seventh round TKO said: “Wilbert is very strong, determined and he can withstand a lot of punishment. I  have the better boxing skills and the better footwork. It’s going to be a classic.”

Wilbert said: “I want to thank Edgar for giving me this opportunity to fight and to decide who’s the best in our division. Edgar has been a superb champion with lots of defenses, but at light flyweight. I’ve been a flyweight for all of my career and I’m very strong at the weight. This is going to be a factor in our fight.”
