MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya was in good spirits on Friday afternoon, as he discussed some of the details of his Thursday meeting with Top Rank executives Bob Arum and Todd duBeof.

De La Hoya's company is the co-promoter of this Saturday's rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Marcos Maidana. When De La Hoya arrived to Las Vegas on Thursday, the first order of business was a meeting with Arum and duBoef at Top Rank's office.

For several years, De La Hoya's company was involved in a heated rivalry with Top Rank and the promotional firms have not co-promoted an event since 2009. Following the June departure of Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer [among other employees], the relations between Golden Boy and Top Rank significantly improved.

One of the topics discussed by De La Hoya and Top Rank, is obviously a 2015 mega-match between Miguel Cotto and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

"It's about opening the doors to working together, to possible making fights that are worth watching. Obviously Canelo came up. I told Bob I would sit down with Canelo next week, he's flying to [Los Angeles] so there is no news there. But we talked about Mikey Garcia, Provodnikov, other fighters. We talked about Abner Mares, various fighters and fights that we could possibly make. The way it ended, I told Bob that I would give him a call next week. We'll see what happens this weekend and we'll see what Canelo wants next week," De La Hoya said.
