Last Saturday night, former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (38-3, 33 KOs) pounded out a tough ten round unanimous decision over Marcos Reyes at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The fight was part of the Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. undercard on HBO Pay-Per-View.

Reyes took a tough beating in the contest, but he never went away. Lemieux suffered a left hand injury in the fight and it prevented him from doing heavy damage in the second half of the fight.

The goal for Lemieux is to get the winner of the upcoming fall mega-bout between Canelo and IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.

Lemieux already fought Golovkin and was stopped in nine rounds in 2015. The Canadian puncher is confident that he could do far better in a rematch.

Canelo-Golovkin takes place on September 16th, and there is a good possibility that Lemieux could appear on the undercard. Lemieux was showcased on two of the last three pay-per-views that were headlined by Canelo.

"Golovkin and Canelo, we will face them in the near future. When? That's the question," Lemieux told RDS.

Right now Lemieux will take some time off to rest his left hand and he also has a sore left shoulder from training camp. Neither injury will require surgery.

The one fighter Lemieux's manager Camille Estephan would love to secure is former four division world champion Miguel Cotto, who returns to the ring in late June or early July.

But even Estephan doubts Cotto would even consider such a dangerous fight at this point in his career. Cotto wants to retired by the end of 2017.

"[I would like to get] Cotto, Miguel Cotto. I do not know if he's going to want to [fight Lemieux], because he's at the end of his career. It would be a really nice fight," Estephan said.

"All of the doors are open for David and he deserves it. His international fame is higher than any other Quebec boxer in history - be it Bute, Pascal, Lucas or Gatti. David is at that point and overtakes all of them."
