Daniel Dubois ended the year with another sensational stoppage win.
The 20-year-old heavyweight prospect only turned professional back in April but he finished his first calendar year in the paid code as a 6-0 talent with all of his wins coming early.
Dubois, who was a Team GB amateur before inking a deal to turn over under Frank Warren and Queensberry Promotions, is the current WBC Youth and Southern Area champion.
And he dispatched of Dorian Darch, the Welshman who IBF, WBA ‘Super’ and IBO world champion Anthony Joshua got rid of inside two rounds three years ago, in just two rounds at the Copper Box Arena, exclusively live on BT Sport and BoxNation, as part of the supporting cast to the ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’ card co-headlined by James DeGale and Lee Selby.
‘DDD’ was dominant throughout and knocked Darch, who did well to survive the opener, down in the first round.
He was given the minute, back at his corner, to recover, but Darch couldn’t handle the young man’s power and was down thrice more –– finally from a big right hand over the top –– before referee Bob Williams called a halt to proceedings after 51 seconds of the second round.
Dubois, who has yet to be given anything like a competitive fight and is steam-rolling those put in front of him, has been mandated for a clash against Ricky Hatton-trained WBC International Silver champion Nathan Gorman for the vacant English title and it will soon become apparent whether that fight will come to fruition.
“I’m very satisfied with that and worked hard for the win,” Dubois said afterwards. “I’m happy to have pulled it off –– I just put my shots together and got it done.
“I’m learning from every fight, maturing and improving, but I will take on any challenge and I’m ready for anyone. Obviously, though, that’s down to my team to sort out.”
Frank Warren said that the plan is to “make the moves at the right time” before moving his fighter forward by giving him more experience heading into the New Year.
Joe Mullender added a fringe belt to his record along with another win.
The former English middleweight champion beat Lee Churcher for the vacant IBF European title at the Copper Box Arena.
Mullender, who had a pair of ding-dongs with Lee Markham recently, knocked his foe down twice in the fifth round of what was an enthralling clash, exclusively live on BoxNation, as part of the undercard to promoter Frank Warren’s ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’ card topped by Lee Selby and James DeGale in separate world title defences.
Churcher, coached by Gavin Rees, gave as good as he could against the Londoner, but tiredness, coupled with several slips which forced the Welshman to have trouble with a knee during the fight, proved to be his downfall, along with a cut at the end of the 10th round.
After starting well, Churcher began to fade throughout the second half of the fight and after another knockdown in round 11, the referee Steve Gray had seen enough, bringing an end to proceedings.
Mullender, who will now be targeting a potential shot at the British title which is being contested by champion Tommy Langford and mandatory challenger Jack Arnfield in February 2018, was delighted with the win and the end came at an official time of 50 seconds of the penultimate stanza.
