For the vacant WBC International middleweight title, Craig Cunningham (17-1, 4KOs) pulled off a shocking eight round stoppage of previously undefeated 2012 Olympic medal winner Anthony Ogogo (11-1, 7KOs).

After the fight, it was said that Ogogo was being bothered by vision issues with his left eye.

Ogogo started well, but the entire fight changed in the second round when Cunningham rocked and dropped Ogogo down in the second round. Ogogo was in a lot of trouble, but managed to recover by the third. They were trading punches for much of the contest and Cunningham was landing good shots, and Ogogo was missing more than he was landing.

In the eight round, there was time called with by the referee for what appeared to be Ogogo going back to his corner to fix some tape on his glove but the fight was waved off when trainer Tony Simms pulled him out.

ON THE UNDERCARD

Kal Yafai lined up a world title fight with a comprehensive victory.

The super-flyweight, who is currently the British, WBA Inter-Continental and IBF Inter-Continental champion, stopped Johnson Tellez inside three rounds at the Barclaycard Arena, live on Sky Sports, as part of the undercard to Frankie Gavin’s welterweight clash against Sam Eggington.

Yafai (now 20-0, 14 KOs) was far superior to the Nicaraguan, who slips to 9-28-5 (6 KOs) in defeat, and, after securing an early finish in his home city, will challenge Luis Concepcion for the WBA belt on December 10 at Manchester Arena, live on Sky Sports Box Office, as part of the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s next IBF heavyweight world title defence.

“He's a big puncher, a two-time and two-weight world champion,” Yafai told Sky Sports, regarding his next opponent, who is from Panama and has a 35-4 (24 KOs) record.

“He'll come forward, no doubt, but he'll meet someone who can really punch.”
