Turning Stone Resort & Casino, Verona, New York - Hard punching welterweight contender Carlos Abregu (34-1, 28KOs) stopped previously undefeated Thomas Dulorme (16-1, 12KOs) in seven rounds to capture the vacant WBC International welterweight title.

Dulorme showed a crisp jab in the first round and a very good defense. Abregu was reaching and trying to find a home for his big shots, but couldn't find a home for many of them.

However, in the third round Abregu caught Dulorme hard with a big combibation to drop him down hard. Dulorme beat the count, but he was nearly out on his feet. Abregu was trying to finish him and nearly did the job before the bell sounded. Dulorme came out doing better in the next round by switching to southpaw and landing good lefts, but he was still getting caught by Abregu's right hands.

Dulorme's face was welling up in the fifth. He was using that sharp jab to control the pace. Abregu came back out with his heavy hands in the sixth, hurting Dulorme and pushing him back. Abregu was still landing hard rights in the seventh, over and over. A series of hard shots sent Dulorme crashing to the mat. Dulorme got up, very hurt, and his corner stopped the fight.
