Rolando Arellano, manager of welterweight Pablo Cesar Cano, spoke to krikya360.com about his client Pablo Cesar Cano’s chances against Shane Mosley this Saturday.

Cano (26-2-1, 20 KOs), from Atizapan de Zaragoza, Mex., has made the trip east to Cancun to face a future Hall of Famer in Mosley (46-8-1, 39 KOs), who has seen better days but is far from a heavy underdog.

“Pablo’s not the fastest or the quickest, but he brings consistent pressure and he’s heavy-handed,” Arellano told krikya360.com.  “He kind of reminds me of [Julio Cesar] Chavez.  He wasn’t the slickest boxer but he just kept coming.

“That pressure not only affects the other fighter not just from a physical standpoint, but from a psychological one.  Shane’s a great fighter, but Pablo’s going to be on him all night long.”

Saturday marks Cano’s second bout as a true welterweight, and his manager feels that his fighter has grown more comfortable with the extra pounds.

“He’s growing.  He’s only 22 years old,” Arellano said.  “He’s got a big frame.  His wrists are big.  His hands are big.  We thought he could hold him at 140 pounds, but no way.

“We brought him up to 147 [pounds] and he still had weight problems, but we couldn’t let him go up anymore, because that would just be a lack of discipline.  After that, we got him a nutritionist, and he has no trouble with weight now.”

In his last outing, Cano was cut but ultimately surprised many onlookers by pushing welterweight titlist Paul Malignaggi to the brink in a split decision defeat on the champ’s Brooklyn hometurf.

“Malignaggi said he’d never been hit in the ribs so hard,” Arellano said.  “He knew how to cut off the ring nicely.  He was calm and collected even after he got the cut, which is a credit to [cutman] Carlos Vargas as well, but overall, Pablo showed he can fight at this level.”
