Once promising cruiserweight/heavyweight contender Flo Simba (12-4, 10KOs) is alleging that Johannesburg police officers assaulted him and his fiancé. Simba walked away from boxing in 2012 after suffering back to back first round knockouts to Thabiso Mchunum, who is now a rising star at cruiser.

According to a report in The Star, Simba alleged that officers pulled him over near Tulisa Park, south of Johannesburg, and wanted to search his car for drugs. Some words were exchanged and then the officers allegedly began to beat up Simba and his fiancé Leandra Beyers.

"They started pushing me around. I told them 'I'm not resisting, you can search me, just stop pushing me'," Simba said. "I told them 'you can't do that, you can't disrespect me. [The officers] were hitting, kicking and punching [my fiancé] all over her face and body."

He suffered head trauma while Beyers had a broken tooth, a swollen eye, and bruising on the body.

A Police spokeswoman Constable Rebecca Bila confirmed to the paper that Simba opened a case of assault. However, she added that the pair were also arrested for drug possession, interfering with police, and assault officers.
