The BOXXER team will once again hit the road.
The UK-based promotional outfit confirmed its role as a partner in the previously announced Alen Babic-Lukasz Rozanski WBC Bridgerweight title fight. BOXXER has teamed with local promoter Knockout Promotions, allowing for its fighters to appear on the April 22 show at a yet-to-be-named location in Rzeszow, Poland.
Caroline Dubois (6-0, 5KOs) —a 2020 Great Britain Olympian—will top the BOXXER-led undercard. An opponent has yet to be named for the fast-rising lightweight, whose older brother is WBA 'Regular' heavyweight titlist Daniel Dubois.
The 22-year-old Londoner southpaw recently celebrated her one-year pro anniversary in February. Dubois rang in the occasion with a 3rd round stoppage of Feriche Mashaury on February 11 at OVO Arena Wembley.
Heavyweight contender Martin Bakole (18-1, 13KOs) will make his BOXXER debut as he will face Ukraine's Ihor Shevadzutskyi (10-0, 8 KOs). The fight will be the first for Bakole since an upset ten-round win over 2016 Olympic Gold medalist Tony Yoka, who was unbeaten at the time of their May 14 clash in Paris.
Interestingly, BOXXER teamed up with Yoka's local promoter for its first event of the year outside of its UK base with a March 11 show in Paris.
“Another significant European adventure awaits," noted BOXXER founder and CEO Ben Shalom. "Paris was an incredible success and we believe that this fight night in Poland will be hugely impactful in the world of boxing.
“Topped by a huge world title fight with Alan Babic, we are looking forward to another showcase for our world class roster on the global stage with Sky Sports.”
The show will also include heavyweight prospect Jeamie TKV (4-0, 2KOs; real name Jeamie Tshikeva). An opponent was not yet named for the 29-year-old Londoner.
Babic-Rozanski comes courtesy of KnockOut Promotions, who secured the rights to the fight after winning a January 31 purse bid hearing.
Rozanski (14-0, 13KOs) re-entered the mix as the next highest ranked contender below Babic. The unbeaten Polish contender—who turned 37 just eight days ago—has fought exclusively in his home country through seven years as a pro, including a first-round knockout of countryman and former title challenger Artur Szpilka in May 2021 in his Rzeszow hometown.
It was the last time that Rozanski has fought, though not entirely of his own doing. The unbeaten contender was due to challenge then-WBC bridgerweight ruler Rivas last August in Colombia. The entire event was canceled and remains the subject of an ongoing legal matter between Rivas’s team and the local promotional group who fell miserably short of promises made.
Rivas has since retired, vacating the title he won following a twelve-round decision victory over Ryan Rozicki in their October 2021 scorcher. He was due to defend his title versus Rozanski last August in his native Colombia, only for the show to get canceled. The development coupled with his injury leaves the win over Rozicki as the final fight of Rivas’ career.
Babic (11-0, 10KOs) has emerged as a cult favorite on the U.K. boxing circuit since turning pro in 2019. The all-action boxer—who is promoted by Matchroom Boxing—has hovered around the traditional cruiserweight limit but has made a point to campaign at bridgerweight.
His last fight came with the division’s WBC Silver bridgerweight title at stake, which he earned in a ten-round, unanimous decision victory over Adam Balski last May 21 at The O2 in London. Babic suffered an opening round knockdown and went the distance, both marking first-time occurrences for the 32-year-old from Zagreb, Croatia, who is now a win away from his first major title.
