WBA interim welterweight champion David Avanesyan (21-1-1, 11KOs) has the biggest fight of his career on tap Saturday against former three-division champion Shane Mosley. The fight takes place at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Ariz. and will air on CBS Sports Network.
Avanesyan's trainer Carl Greaves believes that Mosley is still a very dangerous fighter at 44 years of age, but that he has slowed down some. He said that they spent their training camp working on ways to exploit Mosley's weaknesses and put the future Hall of Famer's name on their resume.
"Obviously we've worked on a game plan and without giving too much away there is a way to beat Shane and I think we can do that at this stage in his career. His defense isn't the best, his head movement isn't great now and his legs aren't what they used to be so there are three attributes we've been working on in training and I'm sure he will be able to take advantage," said Greaves.
After striking up a grand friendship in Panama, Mosley has enlisted the man, the myth, the legend, Roberto “Hands of Stone” Duran, to be his trainer. This “Sugar and Stone” team, as they are calling themselves, are a match made in heaven, and the fans are going crazy. The match is being promoted by GoBox Promotions, the promotional outfit owned by Shane Mosley.
