Prudential Center, Newark, NJ - Prudential Center, Newark, NJ- Polish Artur Szpilka (20-1, 15 KO’s) defeated Yasmany Consuegra (17-2, 14 KO’s) by 2nd round TKO. After a much maligned main event between Steve Cunningham and Antonio Tarver which ended in a split decision draw, the remaining Polish contingent were there in effect cheering for Spzilka. After the massive upset that was Glowacki-Huck, Spzilka delivered a second round knockdown of Consuegra.
Consuegra walked back to the corner dazed, forcing referee Harvey Dock to stop the bout in between rounds as the official ending was due to injury. The Polish fans still in attendance booed as they wanted more action for Spzilka.
Spzilka notches his 15 knockout and 20th win of his career with the 2nd round TKO.
The Polish contingent at the Prudential Center finally had something to cheer about as Kamil Laszczyk(20-0, 8 KO’s) put on an impressive beat down of Oscauris Frias (16-1, 6 KO’s). Laszczyk dropped his opponent early in the 2nd and then again in the 4th; continuing the onslaught into the late rounds. Frias did good work in the 8th but it was too little too late. The local product from North Bergen notched his 21st victory of his career with a unanimous victory. The scores were 80-70 from all three judges.
Undefeated New Yorker Mikkel LesPierre (10-0, 4 KO’s) kept his undefeated record intact with a one sided unanimous decision of Baltimore’s Kevin Womack, Jr(7-7-3, 5 KO’s). LesPierre notches his 10th victory in a 6 round affair while Womack suffers his 7th loss.
Connecticut’s Luis Rosa improves his record to 21-0 with 10 knockouts after beating Mexico’s Giovanni Caro (24-17, 4 KO’s) by unanimous decision. Rosa one of Dibella best prospect was on display as his right hand was cocked and lethal against a game Mexican. Caro tried his best to stay in the fight but Rosa was just too much as he cruised late to a unanimous decision.
Jarrett Hurd (16-0, 9 KO’s) kicked off the PBC on Spike untelevised undercard with a 5th round TKO of Jeff Lentz(5-1, 1KO). Hurd was on the attack from the onset and in in a battle of undefeated fighters notched his 10th KO of his career. Lentz suffered the 1st defeat of his career.
