McWilliams Arroyo is disappointed with Saturday's defeat, but he's still very pleased with his performance.

A very big underdog coming in, Arroyo went the full twelve round distance with the boxer many regard as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world, WBC flyweight world champion Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez.

While losing a wide unanimous decision, he was the first boxer to go the full twelve with Gonzalez since Juan Francisco Estrada in 2012. Gonzalez had stopped his last ten opponents coming into the contest.

"At least we showed that we are at that level," said Arroyo, who saw his record go down to 16-3 and 14 knockouts, to El Vocero.

"But really I'm not entirely happy. I wanted to win. I'm very happy that the fans loved the fight, but what I want is to be champion and I will not be quiet until I do so. On the positive side, if we can call it that, I broke his streak of victories by knockout. It's all good, but I lost and I'm not happy about it.

With the win, Gonzalez increased his undefeated record to 45-0 and 38KO's.

"He's not a fighter who throws his punches smoothly. He simply threw a lot of punches. He is the type of fighter who shoots in angles. He did not hurt me because I covered up pretty good. But I understand that I should have moved more."

Of course there was an interesting situation in the fourth round, where the sole of Arroyo's right shoe came off. He tried to get a break from the referee to deal with the shoe issue, but the referee ignored him and ordered the fight to continue.

"I really do not know what happened. The boots are new and I do not know why that happened. But I do not want to use anything as an excuse. Here there are no excuses."
