Amir Khan has told Sky Sports News HQ that he has held heated discussions with Floyd Mayweather's father over the phone.
Bolton-born Khan is convinced he could be less than two weeks away from landing his long-awaited super-fight with Mayweather and says he is getting under the skin of the undefeated champion's camp.
Khan said: “I spoke to Floyd Senior the other night. He thinks Floyd can beat me easily, so I said ‘alright, if that’s the case, then let’s get a fight made'.
"Then he went all crazy on me and there was lots of swearing. I’ve got a video, I’ve not posted it yet, but I am going to.
"I did get under his skin. He knows I am the guy to maybe beat his son. He doesn’t like the fight between me and Floyd because he knows I could cause him big problems.
"We are getting very close to a fight, I hope."
Khan signed up with Mayweather's management and promotional team, headed by Al Haymon, and believes this will speed up the process in getting the fight made.
Khan has long pursued Mayweather and does not want to waste time on a lost cause.
“It makes it a little bit easier because obviously Al Haymon definitely is going to try his best for both of us," Khan said.
"We will both be on the same TV Channel, we're not going to negotiate on that. Being with the same team, manager and promotional team means it won’t be hard to make. That’s something we have on our side but we are just waiting at the moment."
Khan was forced to work hard to beat Chris Algieri last month but will draw on previous successes if he lands the Mayweather fight.
“I am going to do what I did in the fight against Devon Alexander," he said. "Against Algieri we tried to change it up a little too much but then again you can’t really take a lot from the fight as he came to win and he’s really hard to beat.
“I am probably going to go back to what I do best, improve a few things, I have seen the video of when I fought Chris Algieri but like I said I am only getting better and I am a great position at the moment."
