Today (August 12) Top Rank announced that featherweight prospect Albert “Chop Chop” Gonzalez, the latest star to emerge from the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy, has signed a long-term contract with the promotional company.
Gonzalez, 10-0 (6 KOs), picked up his third win of 2024 last Saturday in Albuquerque, New Mexico with a third-round TKO over Damian Alcala.
“Albert Gonzalez is a ferocious, aggressive puncher, someone I feel is going to be a real force at featherweight and beyond for years to come,” said Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum. “With Robert Garcia and his team guiding him inside the ring, combined with his natural talent, he has all the tools to become a champion.”
“I want to thank God, my team, and everyone who had something to do with getting this done. Although getting here has been a long road, this is only the beginning,” said Gonzalez. “And for those who are new to me, I hope you enjoy the ride. I have a fan-friendly style and always give the fans their money’s worth.”
Born in Moreno Valley, California, Gonzalez, 22, turned pro in November 2021 with a unanimous decision over Chamar Flowers. He then went 4-0 with a pair of knockouts in 2023 and began his 2024 campaign in April with a first-round TKO over Joel Alberto Mora. In July, he overwhelmed Conrado Martinez with a barrage of power shots en route to a sixth-round stoppage and then returned less than a month later to become the first man to stop 13-fight veteran Alcala.
