Less than 24 hours after Adrian Hernandez was confirmed to return to the ring on November 22 , the former two-time 108 lb. titlist now has an opponent to go along with the comeback.
Hernandez will face countryman Armando Torres, in a supporting bout to a bantamweight showdown between Julio Ceja and Christian Esquivel.
Hernandez (29-3-1, 18KOs) fights for the first time since his 6th round knockout loss to precocious Naoya Inoue in April. The defeat ended his second tour as a junior flyweight titlist, though the 28-year old is confident that a third reign is in his future. The former champ has spent the past few months sparring with Pedro Guevara and reigning super flyweight titlist Carlos Cuadras.
Torres (21-12, 15KOs) enters having won two straight following a three-fight losing streak. The 33-year old is known for giving his opponents a good night’s work, as evidenced in a May split decision loss to Pedro Guevara, who on December 30 will challenge for the very same 108 lb. title Hernandez has twice held.
The card will air live on Televisa.
Also appearing on the undercard: former bantamweight challenger Hugo Ruiz embarks on a run for a 122 lb. title, as he faces an opponent to be determined; and Ibeth Zamora defends her WBC flyweight title versus Yessica ‘Kika’ Chavez.
