So what were veteran trainer Abel Sanchez's thoughts on Alex Saucedo's bloody and violent seventh round stoppage of Lenny Zappavigna this past weekend?

The ESPN televised co-feature was by far the shining star of the entire event.

"I thought that he did what we had worked on in the gym. I didn't anticipate a cut like that, so when the cut happened he went a little crazy on him. But he's Alex Saucedo, he's not going to be Gennady Golovkin and he's not going to be Murat Gassiev - he's going to be Alex," said the noted trainer, who also works with the above mentioned duo.

Saucedo (28-0, 18 KOs), at heart will always be an aggressive fan-friendly fighter.

"That's the Alex we're going to see, he's a throwback to some of the warrior Mexican fighters, he likes to fight and my hope was to bring out that meanness in him, that fight in the gym and when he got cut in the fight he brought it out a little more than I wanted because he threw away the defensive part of it,"Sanchez continued.

The trainer says he will not try and change Saucedo's ring identity and that fans try and have it both ways when it comes to fighters and the bouts that they participate in.

"I think that we live in a hypocritical world because everybody wants to see a fight and then when they fight, everybody says, 'How come his defense is so bad?' Well, you can't have it both ways," Sanchez reasoned. "We're going to trying to do what's best for Alex's career and we're not going to make him Floyd Mayweather, we're not going to make him Gennady Golovkin or Murat Gassiev.

"We're going to make him Alex Saucedo and if he feels more comfortable going to war in the fights, that's what we he feels he needs to do for his career, we can teach him all the things that we can in the gym, we can coach him and we can do all the things - but it gets down to brass tax and he's inside the ring, he's going to do what comes natural t him and what he feels most comfortable doing."

While Zappavigna was a bloody mess during this fight, Saucedo also paid a price in victory and spent  most of the fourth round getting battered around the ring as he had a defensive lapse. These are things that Sanchez will work on moving forward.

Sanchez continued by saying - "Obviously, I don't want him to take shots like that but  like I said, Arturo Gatti was made a hero because of that and had a legendary career. If Alex can have that kind of career with less punishment I would love it But unfortunately those styles mean you're going to get hit."
