Miami (OH) stays undefeated with last-second basket against Western Michigan

March Madness bracket predictions on Feb. 24

After being down eight with just under seven minutes to play, Miami (OH) stormed back against Western Michigan for a last-second win to keep its undefeated season alive. Freshman Trey Perry attacked the rim with 0.4 seconds remaining to lift the Redhawks to a 69-67 win over Western Michigan and extend their historic win streak.

Miami improved to 29-0 and remains the nationโ€™s last unbeaten team, surviving what might have been the most improbable victory of the bunch. The RedHawks played without Luke Skaljac, who missed the game with a wrist injury, and lost leading scorer Peter Suder to fouls with seven minutes remaining.

Moments after Suder exited, Miami trailed by nine on the road against a 10-18 Western Michigan team that refused to go away. But the RedHawks answered with poise.

Almar Atlason scored 16 points and knocked down key threes during the late rally. Suder still led Miami with 18 points before fouling out, and Perry added 14, none bigger than his final drive.

After Western Michigan tied the game at 67 on a mid-range jumper by Justice Williams with 12 seconds left, Miami called timeout and put the ball in Perryโ€™s hands. The 6'2 guard drove hard down the lane and finished through contact just before the horn.

Two games now separate Miami from a perfect 31-0 regular season.
