We started with notta. We got married 24 years ago and had goals to do better than our parents.
We moved into our first apartment when we got married. No one gave us anything, no money no gifts notta. We had a black and white tv on a milk crate. We had a futon with the frame in the living room and the mattress in the bedroom. But we kept our heads down and did what we had to. I worked three jobs. The wife worked two. We saved enough to go into business with my best friend. Together we bought a building and shop that someone was dumping for cheap. The first year was tough but we got through and things picked up big-time. Next thing you know I was doing custom fiberglass speaker boxes on lambos. Had kings players that were customers.
Anyway we did well for years. I was having some unknown health issues that no one could figure out. The doc said it was stress so I sold my part of the building and shop. Did well enough to not work.
The wife couldn't stay home she wanted to work so she took a small job as a store manager with a company that has great benefits. That really helped with the medical bills for my surgery.
I look back and think about how hard we had it. But at the same time I wouldn't change any of it. I think it's made us who we are now.
Eye on the prize.
