anyway, thank you guys. I know I should look at it as a learning experience and less as a "I got my ass kicked" and improve on that. thanks for not being rude
I felt like I "lost" seeing how I got my ass kicked because he had double my reach. but I was pretty nice to him seeing how i just gave him 1 punch to the ribs and got a reaction from it while he was covered up. As soon as I get inside on pretty much anyone I never get outpunched. Yes I'm a t-rex as my arms are short. -.- it is a horrible curse.
Don't get complacent, one day you will fight someone, you will land and he won't give you a reaction and you will think '**** I'm outta ideas' sparring is about learning and taken away strengths and weaknesses
I've seen countless guys who are a beast on the mitts but **** in the ring, also guys who are average on the Mitts but get a rage in the ring and turn into Neo from Matrix
I find a good good spar partner is someone you can do 3 consecutive rounds with, maybe over 4 weeks. If after 4 weeks your kicking his ass every session, it's time to step up, if he's winning rounds off you here and there. You ain't as good as you think you are.
Boxing isn't complex, people like to make it sound like its particle physics (and maybe it is if you Virgil hunter or able Sanchez)
In reality, keep it simple, stay away from YouTube. In/out footwork with fast hands and pivoting on your lead foot, good fitness and high output, with a switch to southpaw from orthodox, will win you 90% of fights at a local AM level.
If you want to go state/national/Olympic you may need a little more in your arsenal, but for your avergage guy.... 'Don't run before you can walk'
