How beneficial is the double-end bag?

I'm thinking about buying a double-end bag to use at home.

However, I was just wondering how beneficial you guys find them? What are the pros and cons compared to regular heavy bag work?

I consider timing to be one of my strengths and I thought the double-end bag would help improve timing, speed and reflexes.

I've been in a few boxing gyms that don't have them and was wondering whether that was because they didn't see much value in them.

Double end bags don't develop power, and I personally think that's why they're not very common, in addition to being much harder to setup.

I wish they were more common though and I'm glad my gym has one, cause I personally find them excellent for speed, timing and reflexes. Anybody can hit a heavy bag, but being able to land consistently good shots on a moving double end bag in my opinion is one of those things that separates people that box from people that go to a boxing gym

        Thanks for the response, guys.

I think I will get one to use at home. Hopefully it helps to sharpen up reflexes and timing.

Personally ! I use a Mexican double end bag . Instead of just one ball you have two. so you can throw a wider range of punches. Good for head and body combos as well as speed , reflexes and timing!

those double-end bags are very beneficial, not for beginners...definitely a lot of value in them though.

It was never an important function in my gym but if it can be used in a positive way its welcomed. I don't put emphasis on it however it is good for basic eye/hand coordination. I prefer a hanging bag because of the 360 degrees that can be utilized. I don't like the D/Bag for punching then blocking as it returns, useless! Ray

Id put a double end bag OVER a speedbag and heavybag even though heavybag is my favorite.

It teaches hand eye coordination, learning proper distance, combinations, slipping, punching and slipping, makes you move your head after throwing... Teaches you how to hit a moving target as well. And its excellent arm exercise and cardio.

Heavybag and double can be debated as which is more important, but its definitely more important than a speedbag.
