I think you need to always build good fundamentals, once you’ve established that you have the base to mould or shape a fighter into whatever style is most befitting to his natural abilities. It’s very much a case by case basis though.

Love that quote about mistakes, so true!!! So many fighters pick up bad habits early on that cost them dearly later in their career. ALL fighters must be taught the proper fundamentals IMO. Too many guys are moved too quickly purely on the basis that they are athletically gifted. There are too many “fitness trainer’s and not enough teachers in boxing nowadays.

Wrestling is the discipline that you start with.
It's not "the best base" for fighting... it is the base for fighting.

Toss in some of your thoughts on the matter, get things going.

And you were talking about "fighting" at first, now you're saying "boxing."

              Alright here's my serious response.

I would focus on mental aspects more so than physical starting out. The physical aspects will come later, seeing as that he/she is a kid. Start them out very slowly.

Kids need to be disciplined more than anything. At the same time, I wouldn't be so hard on them to burn them out either.

Kids need LOTS of positive reinforcements starting out, especially when it comes to sports. Point out everything that they do right and praise them for it. For every negative comment, you need like, 3 positive comments. It's psychological. Keeps their spirits up. That way, they stay invested.

The kid needs to want to learn. The kid has to listen.

Very hard to build up a young fighter.

I would get the best available aircraft grade aluminum and titanium. A couple high performance engines with the ability to supercruise. Use top of the notch software for design and aeronautics and then sell these bad boys for 120 million each

Oh you mean a boxer, my bad

Find someone who has actually trained young men in the sport. Someone with a proven back ground and has the time and means to teach.

You can NOT do this Larry, your heart maybe in the right place but you have no experiences in the sport let alone teaching skills. I knew great fighters who couldn't teach worth a damn.
Teaching is a skill set in it's self let alone boxing knowledge.

You start with the mind first and see where hes at and if he wants to fully get there . I would have him read two books on combat that goes beyond boxing that i have and if can do that ,hes finished step one then its on to actually training and forming him to what his strengths are and seeing weaknesses ,see what naturally works and doesnt .

The trainer CANNOT re invent a fighter he can only add to the fighters capabilities . You establish a communication /relationship outside the ring , a fighter is like a pet you have to understand and groom . lol

You build a fighter from the inside out ,if the inside holds up so will the outside .......... The BUILDER/trainer should have boxing IQ to detect on the FLY what adjustments need to be made and number one rule is the trainer should NOT want to win more thsn the fighter otherwise you should just put on the gloves or walk away ........

At young age drive is more important than skill bc skills will come with consistency and style of what should proceed as he matures to a more technical abilities , dont over think just make sure the young kid knows why hes there .

These things have to be established off the bat !
