    Best MWs ever

so i saw a thread at NSB by Larry "top 5 MWs of all the time"

    And lists are
    1.SRR
    2.Greb
    3.Monzon
    4.Hagler
    5.Bhop

in many orders but this names basicly.

What about fighters like Gibbons ,Cerdan ,Zale,Ketchel ,its weird that Lamotta is never mentioned ,Mickey Walker,Gene Fullmer,Steele ,Maybe we can count SRL why not? Archie Moore ,and what is Shocking to me ,Emile Griffith was neve mentioned.
top 5's are usually popular names or belives but are they real top 5s?

It depends if you talking middleweight legacy or just whoever fought there.. Hopkins has a great lecagy there but Roy jones was clearly better..

Going by resume or h2h are 2 different lists

I usually see Monzon at the top, followed by Hagler, Robinson, Greb. B Hop is usually outside the top 5 because of a weaker era, but he still dominated, so top 10. Sounds about right.

When you conduct your career like Ho'kins you get punished for it by history. He is no top 5, I never felt so sure of anything. Maybe he makes the top 10. I believe Rodrigp Valdez can decision him.

          Robinson
          Monzon
          Hagler
          Greb
          Cerdan
          Lamotta
          Zale
          Ketchel
          McClellan
          Jackson
          Hopkins

Yet one thing can be said unequivocally about Ho'kins--he indeed had a stellar chin.

I feel that the top four on the above list are interchangable

If I watch Monzon closely I see exploitable weaknesses. There is a video on his weaknesses on YouTube, also one on his strengths. I will not post the links. Anyone interested can find them.

I want to add to the list of weaknesses that Monzon had a so-so lefhook. Hooks got thrown because sometimes a fighter is twisted to his left after throwing a right. All fighters throw a hook in that position because it is a natural movement to do so.

His jab was quite good but his lefhook was weak and telegraphed. Out in the open he could not lead with it a la Jones or Robinson. His lefhook was no more special than Joe Frazier or Jerry Cooney's right hand. A fair comparison.

By determined opponents Monzon was fairly hittable. Briscoe knew how to work his way inside effectively. The Pampas boy showed an excellent chin.

I was in the other thread saying the same thing.

So what about H2H? Would Hopkins make the top 10?

My top 5 in that thread was

                Greb
                Robinson
                Monzon
                Hagler
                Ketchell

                Then....

                Steele
                Hopkins
                Lamotta
                Walker
                Cerdan

Others that I've seen top ten are Zale, Williams, D Tiger, Fitzsimmons, Flowers, Griffith, Burley.

H2H I would favour Steele and Cerdan to beat most of my top 5. I'm not sure about Greb and Ketchell but they would beat Monzon and Hagler, and I feel they could overwhelm Robinson.

Yeah top 10, towards the bottom, I could see Hopkins making it, I could also see him being left out. He is very borderline IMO

Agreed. Not to take away from his legacy, I think his career has been pretty incredible when taken as a whole.

It is just that his career has been more about being very good for a really long time instead of being godly for any period. What made his career exceptional was the longevity of his peak - not the heights of his peak.
