Comparisons between Lennox Lewis and Tommy Hearns...

Is it me, or didn't the Steward-trained Lennox resemble a giant Thomas Hearns?! If you think about it, there's the jab, the huge snappy right, and the slightly suspect chin if they are caught just right...

Sounds more like Wladimir than Hearns and Lewis but Steward does good best with turning tall punchers into boxers.

No, I love Lennox but he wasn't quite as exciting as Tommy Hearns.
      The best comparison by far

is Lennox Lewis ......... regress into BOOM WLADIMIR KLITHSCKO

It's like evolution but backwards, that's the best comparison. Manny probably feel like he's regressing in life as well, because he don't understand how Wlad can't be Lennox.

Honestly the gap in skill and versatility between Hearns and Lennox is pretty massive.

first of all you dont train anyone to have a suspect chin, second lennox and hearns didnt have suspect chins and third anyone and everyone can get hurt/knocked out if they are hit just right.

other than that what you just described is the text book style for a tall fighter and applies to almost all tall fighters. you use the jab to keep your oponent at bay and set up the big right, fighting tall 101.

steward is world renowned for being the best at teaching tall men how to use their height and all his tall fighters use it to their advantage and most other tall fighters do it too. lewis and hearns are not very similar other than on a very, very basic level. they fight tall.

lewis used his strenght and size alot in addition to his height while hearns relied on speed and agility. they had diffrent arsenal of punches, diffrent movement patterns and a very diffrent mentality. hearns came out fast and then boxed more as the fight went on while lewis was very careful early and opened up as the fight went on.

hearns and lewis arent very similar. in fact if you asked me to name two fighters steward trained that were the most diffrent it might just be hearns and lewis.

I see similarities but same could be said for a lot of fighters

Steward would be a good trainer for Khan, hes good at teaching tall fighters how to fight tall

To make what I said more clear... I never implied that Manny trained Thomas and Lennox to have "Slightly suspect chins," which many experts believe they had. I just thought it was a coincidence both had 2 fights in which 1-punch KO's had done them in. Hearns with Hagler and Barkely; and Lennox with McCall and Rahman. Yes, I do agree Lennox was much more careful than Hearns but both had very similar tools. And both boxed at a distance usually ending their fights with the big right hand with the potent jab preceding it...

I don't see the Wlad comparison as some of you. Lennox had more of an arsenal a la Hearns. While he wasn't as reckless as Hearns was in some of his fights.. He was surely more exciting than "super-safety" Wlad...

Only on a basic level, which may or may not be attributed to Steward.

neither one of them had suspect chins. hearns wasnt the victim of a one punch KO against hagler either, he was broken down. the fight might only have lasted 6min but he took nearly 12 rounds worth of punishment before going down.

more importantly hagler was a huge puncher, as was barkley who was also the size of a Lt.HW. hearns being a former WW. very few MWs could have taken the shots that took hearns out, he didnt have a weak chin at all. neither did lennox, just look at his overall career.

they didnt have very similar tools, only on a very basic level. like i said 99% of all tall fighters fight the way you described. fighting at a distance using your jab and setting up the big right is fighting tall 101. what hearns and lewis had incommon they also share with almost every other tall man in the history of boxing.

if you look beyond that they dont really have a whole lot incommon. different movement patterns with both their head and feet, very different arsenal of punches (except for the basic 1-2), they set their punches up very diffrently and used diffrent counterpunches, they had diffrent stances etc.. i could go on all day.

they had very little incommon, and what they did have incommon they share with 99% of the tall fighters in history.
