Can you believe it's been 23 years?

I was young but some of you guys remember the night Mike Tyson knocked out Michael Spinks.

I remember getting off work and driving 20 miles home in 20 minutes(in the city). I had about twenty people coming to watch the fight and got home minutes before the telecast started. After all the build up and preshow, boom it was over! Everybody made it home early on a work night(including the fighters)!

    Trivial,
The fight was three days before Tyson's 22nd birthday and 16 days before Spinks 32nd.

I went and saw Vinny Pazienza fight live that night at the Providence civic center and than they showed the closed circuit telecast of Tyson-Spinks afterwards on the giant tv's on the score board. My friends and I figured it to be an early night by the demeanor of both fighters when they came out, but everybody was surprised at how early the end really came.

Younger fans might be surprised to hear that back then most big fights took place on Monday. Don't ask me why.

Really, I used to watch shows all week spread out. Now I watch close to same amount of shows all squeezed in on Friday and Saturday nights.

I never got to watch the live Tyson-Spinks fight, but I watched my Uncle's taped version of it. That's about as close as I ever got to it.

Unfortunately you cannot understand the build up and anticipation leading to the fight then....all of Tysons fights back then. It was pretty amazing.
