Canto and Olivares Have A Laugh At Hector Camacho

Here is a wee story from the IBHOF induction from 1998.

Olivares a former Bantamweight world champion and Featherweight champion from Mexico who fought 104 times between 1965 and 1988, accomplished fellow Mexican Miguel Canto for much of the time.

Neither speaks English and relied on interspreter Gene Aguilera to translate. As the men were touring the museum, they stopped by one of the television screen and observed highlights of a Hector Camacho match.

They said a few words to one another, then started to laugh. They think Camacho is feminine said the interpreter.

Yeah, the guy took some serious punishment in a few of his fights against big punchers. Not only against JCC and prime versions of De La Hoya and Trinidad, but with Rosario and a few of his wins. More respect is in order for this cat.

If Malignaggi gets respect for taking the Cotto beat down, then his daddy Camacho should too. Macho Man is the blueprint for the Magic Man.

Camacho is "what happened?" kind of guy. Maybe it's as simple as him getting rocked by Rosario (for the record I thought Camacho barely pulled out the win), but I'm sure there was more to it than that. When I first saw him is when he beat Bazooka Limon, and I thought no one was going to beat this guy for a long time.
I don't think he took a particularly serious amount of punishment, though. Certainly not enough to justify being punch drunk by his early 30s.
