Less than a week on from Edwin De Los Santos’ cancelled fight with Keyshawn Davis, De Los Santos and promoter Sampson Lewkowicz have parted ways.
Davis came in overweight ahead of his scheduled Saturday fight at Scope Arena in Norfolk by 4.3lbs, and then Dominican Republic southpaw De Los Santos – who is 16-2 (14 KOs) – did not go through with the fight.
Lewkowicz, citing his fighter’s health, pulled his boxer from the contest, but promoter and fighter have now parted ways amicably and De Los Santos has been given an unconditional release.
“Edwin is a warrior, and I support him and still consider him a personal friend,” said Lewkowicz. “There is no animosity between us. What happened last week was very unfortunate. I did what I thought was best, but Edwin won’t let his fighting spirit agree, so I gave him his release. I know he will go on to do great things in the ring and become a world champion. I will still be cheering for him to do so and he can always come to me for advice.”
