Heavyweight Brandon Moore is not his jovial self ahead of his fight with Stanley Wright on Friday at Turning Stone Resort & Casino, Verona, New York.

Moore faces Wright in the main event on DAZN and the 17-1 (10 KOS) prospect from Lakeland, Florida, who signed with Salita Promotions earlier this year, is normally one to talk trash. But, for this fight, that isn’t the case. Wright upset the 2020 Olympic Trials runner-up Jeremiah Milton in February and Moore knows that he has a formidable opponent ahead of him.

“I watched that fight, and going in, I thought Milton was going to win, or that is what I saw from the outside looking in,” Moore told BoxingScene. “ I just think one lapse of a moment caused a storm to happen, and it caused Jeremiah Milton to take his first loss.”

Moore lost in 2024 to 2020 Olympic silver medalist Richard Torrez Jnr. That is a fight that he continues to talk about wanting again, and a contest he believes he has grown from.

“I’ve been in that type of situation before, not being as focused as I should be, so that’s why I've toned it down a little bit,” Moore said. “I’ve been locked in the gym. So, that’s my vibe right now.”

Moore had his first fight with Salita Promotions in February – on the Claressa Shields-Danielle Perkins undercard – and he defeated Skylar Gray after referee Steve Willis disqualified Gray for pushing Moore out of the ropes. Though the fight was ugly, Moore remains positive about the experience.

“That was a grueling fight,” Moore said. “I’ve never had cold chills the night after the fight and stuff like that. It was a good experience. I look back on it now and think you need those types of fights in your career.”

That could prove helpful against Wright, 14-0 (11 KOs), who has weighed in north of 270lbs in three of his last five fights. Wright, a 34-year-old from Charlotte, North Carolina, is entering with confidence after his career-defining win. Moore is unbothered by the size of his opponent.

“I’m a bigger size heavyweight myself, and I fought bigger size heavyweights,” Moore said. “He’ll just be another guy on the totem pole. Hit him with that jab and look good doing it.”
