At the direction of the NCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Committees, the national office will implement player availability reports for the 2026 Division I Men's and Women's Basketball Championships.

About the Policy

The NCAA Player Availability Reporting Policy supports the integrity of the Division I Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships by requiring timely, accurate disclosure of student‑athlete participation status. The policy is part of the NCAA’s sports‑betting risk mitigation strategy and is intended to prevent the misuse of insider information while promoting transparency and good‑faith reporting by institutions.

Key points:

  • Applies only to NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship games (March Madness).
  • Institutions submit two reports per game:
    • Initial report: due by 9:00 p.m. local time the day before the game
    • Game‑day report: due two hours before tip‑off
  • Every rostered student‑athlete must be listed as AvailableQuestionable, or Out, with no additional details included.
  • Reports must be completed in good faith, avoid sudden or misleading status changes, and align with any public comments.
  • Failure to submit accurate or timely reports may result in investigations and penalties, including fines for repeat violations.
