WBA Vice President Gilberto Mendoza Jr confirmed to BoxingScene a report that appeared in the Latin American press that Peru's undefeated Carlos Zambrano (24-0, 11 KOs) could fight fellow undefeated fighter Daniel Ramírez (24-0, 20 KOs) of the Dominican Republic. The bout would be for the organization's interim title at featherweight and would take place on March 28.

Zambrano fought various times in the United States and was at one time based in New Jersey before returning to South America while Ramírez is a power puncher who in his last outing captured the WBA Fedecaribe title.

The current world champion is Nicholas Walters of Jamaica while Ramírez and Zambrano are rated at numbers three and four respectively.
