Last week, former world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa announced that he was signing with upstart BB Promotions. For the 34-year old Cuban it's a fresh start and a chance to resuscitate a flagging career that once held so much promise.

But just who and what is BB Promotions?

An insider who spoke on the condition of anonymity told krikya360.com - "They're based out of Spain, they're guaranteeing him an X-amount of fights and per fight they are guaranteeing him purses that are very lucrative and at the same time they are giving up some control to him, for him to pick and choose certain fights, put everything together.

''That was probably the deal-maker at that point where he is basically entering into sort of a co-promotion and using his own promotion company as well. And that's what put it over the top."

Gamboa, who has a record of 25-1(17 KO's), last fought on December 19th, winning a ten round verdict over Hylon Williams. His last meaningful fight took place in June of 2014 when he was stopped in nine rounds by Terence Crawford in Omaha, Nebraska. Since then he's only fought twice, as he's languished under the SMS Promotions banner of rapper/promoter Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson.

As for the deal moving forward,"The numbers were great, he just didn't know who these guys were. He got them vetted, they're people with real money. They come out of Spain, a soccer background. They have a lot of money and they're trying to venture into boxing. The difference here being is that he's not giving them control - the control he maintains."

But Gamboa still has to play out the rest of his deal with SMS Promotions, which is now basically out of the boxing business.

"50 is still going to be involved down the road not in any promotional sense but monetarily as part of him breaking off from the deal. He's going to be getting some percentage off the top," said the source, who said SMS Promotions has paper on Gamboa till the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2016.

"SMS is still trying to get him a fight. Basically were at a point where he's ready, willing and able to fight anywhere and it's pretty much going to be like in the days of old where SMS is going to see if someone wants to offer Gamboa a fight and they'll put him on their card.

"But that's going to end at the end of October."
